The club itself is exclusive with a clubhouse, once owned by the Domecq family, is gorgeous. The Japanese have not spared anything in building a challenging and interesting 6440m long course. The course fairways have groves of trees, calling for accurate play on this 2996m, par 36 course. Of note is the 4th and 6th holes where drives are required over the sea. It's the kind of territory where Clint Eastwood would have felt quite at home in his "High Plains Drifter" days. Pepe Gancedo, renowned for the inimitatbility of Torrequebrada on the Spanish mainland, designed the course, whose feature are the bunkers, full not of sand but fine, grey volcanic rock, which has a more compact consistency in the often high Sahara winds. Pros shouldn't find the course that long, but the greens will vary in speed dramatically according to the time of day. This 3 x 9 hole par 35/36/36 is a well kept course. The twenty-seven holes are undulating and inventive with many blind second shots. A popular new destination for Holiday Golfers, in the sort of terrain where a decade ago you would have believed golf impossible. Site of the 1989 Volvo European Tour opening.
