Having two large lakes that come into play on the course, may prevent one from making par 72. Visitors are welcome. The course is closed on Monday and also closes between October and March. Opened in 1972 the course is an 18 hole, par 72, 6065m long championship course. The club has been host for the Italian Open and welcomes visitors. The course is closed on Tuesdays. The parkland course is an 18 hole par 72 at 6053m long. It meanders through the trees that line the fairways and an occassional stream may come into play. GOLFCLUB BIELLA LE BETULLE (1958) REG VALCAROZZA, 13050 MAGNANO PHONE: 015 679151 Known as one of the best courses in Italy, this 18 hole par 73, at a long and uncomprising 6427m, was built in the late fifties from a John Morrison design. Fairways travel through a forest of birch and oak trees; and the severe water hazards, well situated bunkers, hillocks and hollows, will add to the difficulty of the course. The 5th is probably the severest and the longest of the dog-leg holes. The fairways of the 6171m course wind their way through avenues of pine, oak and cypress trees and provide excellant views of the nearby Apennine mountains. Visitors are welcome. The typical American design with water hazards and vast undulating greens adds to the difficulty of trees in front of bunkers; a Dye trademark. The course is laid out on the side of Mnt Cuneo and strong winds may, at times, affect the flight of your ball. The course does close in January and February, and also is closed on Mondays. The Donald Steel designed golf facility has opened an 18 hole par 72, 6505m and a 9 hole par 35, at 2415m. Both course fairways wind through lines of olive and cypress trees, with a few ancient oaks to add and or present an interesting challenge. GARLENDA GOLF CLUB VIA DEL GOLF 7, 17030 GARLENDA PHONE: 0182 580012 In the northern province of Liguria, west of Genoa and just north of Alassio, this club offers an 18 hole par 71 5964m course that is laid out in three styles. Designed by John Harris in 1965, many of the opening holes lie in the valley but climbing up through the vinyards and pine trees to higher ground is required. A dried river bed fronts the short 13th green. The club is tucked away from the routine tourist spots but welcomes visitors. The course closes on Wednesdays except in July and August. The course was redesigned by John Harris on hilly terrain with narrow, undulating fairways. Visitors must book in advance. During the sixties the club re-modeled and an additional loop was added. The club now offers an 18 hole par 72, 6414m as well as the 9 hole, par 36, 2976m parkland courses. Olgiata is one located northwest of the city near La Storta and was opened in 1961. Designed by C.K. Cotton, it is a parkland course with 18 holes at 6185m. There is a 9 hole par 34 course at 2968m, also. Many oak and elm trees add to the splendor of this prestigious club, which has hosted the Eisenhower Trophy and the World Cup. Originally commissioned by the Aga Khan, the course was carved into the rocky coastline at Costa Smeralda. The 18 hole, par 72 provides many sweeping views of distant mountains and at times views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Visitors must book in advance. From the wide fairways of this 18 hole par 71 course one can see many of the famous Rome landmarks. On the back tees, meandering streams create some water hazards and the greens are relatively fast and sloping. An Englishman Denys Scott won the first Italian Championship at this club in 1906. It is near the Lake Como resort area in Lombardy Province, north of Milan, on Lake Montorfano. The 18 hole par 71 parkland course is 5787m with fairways that wind through and around dense forest of pine, chestnut, and fir trees. This magnificent layout is always very well maintained and is extremely popular for a golfing holiday.
