Omaha Beach is comprised of three distinct 9 hole courses,
with the Sea course Le Mer, being the most difficult yet the
most scenic. The L'Etang is an American style course with
many water hazards. And th Le Bocage, also opened in 1986,
is a more traditional, open parkland course of about 2875m.
The course is long, over 6229m and hilly and provides for
fantastic views of the beaches used during the Allied D-Day
invasion, back in June of 1944. Courses close on Tuesdays
during the winter months.

Rated as one of the best courses in Europe, the club
built in 1987 is the most exclussive in the world,
with only two members. Open to the public, this Robert
Von Hagge designed par 72 course has a daunting lay-out
where water enters play on 15 of the 18 holes. The
length of the course, 6412m, added to the thick wood,
huge bunkers, undulating terrain, and small, fast
greens, makes Les Bordes extremely difficult to play.
It is not recommended for beginners. Visitors are

On the banks of the Charente river in the Charente Maritime
province, which sits on the Bay of Biscay in western France,
this course was financed by the Martell family brandy makers
and opened in 1988. The long 6142m 18 hole par 72 course is
a demanding lay-out over undulating, heavy wooded terrain.
The greens are very narrow and difficult. Golf du Cognac
provides a big practice range and four practice holes.

Due to the surroundings, the challenge of this 6006m course
is secondary. Sited on the French shore of Lake Geneva, and
close to the famous Mont Blanc, Evian has almost a fairytale
ambience in addition to the superb quality offered by this
spa resort. The 18 hole par 72 course has been reshaped from
the original 1904 design, with large dazzling bunkers.

Golf National was built in 1990 near Guyancourt, south of
Versailles, to provide first-class golfing facilities for
the public where many private clubs are sited. It will be
the home for the French Open and other tournaments.
The club has two 18 hole courses; The Albatros is a par 72
at 6515m and was inspired by the American concept of the
stadium course. Designed by Robert Von Hagge, it has dunes
and knolls, made from tons of rubble, water hazards, and
superb greens. The Aigle course is also a par 72, at 5936m
and caters to the less accomplished golfer. The club
facilities provide for a short course, numerous practice
areas and has a 220 bay driving range. Golf training is

It was founded by British officers in 1856 and has remained

Located on the Belgium border in the Andrennes forest, the
abby has had a remarkable history from its building in 1129.
The abby was destroyed during the French Revolution but it
has since been restored and later became the family home of

2875m long parkland course. An additional 9 holes are under

Le Touquet Club has been the holiday club of choice by
the British for almost a century. The sea course Le Mer,
is an 18 hole par 72 links course and the forest, Le Foret,
is a parkland par 71 course that rolls and loops through
the many pine trees.

At La Touche east of Orleans in the Loire valley, the
original 9 holes designed by Trent Jones was opened in
1953. The additional nine were added in 1988 giving the
club an 18 hole par 71, 5771m long course. It is very
American in character having large bunkers and many
water hazards. Visitors are welcome all the time except
the course is closed on Tuesday during the winter.

Sited in the western environs of Paris, west of Orvilliers,
La Vaucouleurs opened in '86, and has 2 contrasting courses.
The River course is an 18 hole par 73 at 6298m, a typical
parkland design. It runs through woodland with rolling
fairways and has many water hazards. The shorter 5638m long
18 hole, par 70 is more like a links course with thick rough
and excellent bunkers. Both courses are closed on Wednesdays
during the winter but welcome visitors at all other times.

Located in the province Puy de Dome, the course about 3000
feet above sea level, was built in 1984 on volcanic land and
is sited west of the city of Clermont-Ferrand. Views from the
course are magnificient. The fairways being fringed with fir
trees and heather, are wide and inviting on this 18 hole
par 72, 6242m long course.

ISLAND OF CORSICA
The island, situated in the northern Mediterranean Sea,
is divided into two French departments or provinces;
Haute Corse, on the north and east side of the island and
Corse Du Sud, which is on the south and west side.
At this time, there are only two golf clubs on the island.

saite on the clifftops. This is a Trent Jones designed 18
hole, par 72, 6130m course that has received worldwide
acclaim. Because of its popularity, visitors are welcome, but
must book in advance.
